There are numerous hotels in the old arms manufacturing city of Thun. It is a very popular travel destination for visitors from around the world and early booking is strongly recommended if you wish to stay in the city itself. The B&T AG contact will provide names and contact details for those travelling into the country. The Hotel Seepark and Hotel Freienhof, the latter conveniently located in the town centre, were recommended on this occasion.
Power & Plug Types
European 2-pin plugs are standard. However, a unique type of Swiss 2-pin plug is also in use, reception were able to provide on loan, the requisite adaptor(s) on request.
The Swiss are envied for their law-abiding attitudes and public safety has a high priority. It is improbable that the visitor to the B&T Police Show will fall foul of or indulge in the anti-social behaviour to be seen elsewhere in the world.
The city of Thun is located in a Swiss-German speaking area of the country, but most Swiss will have at least a working knowledge of another official (French/Italian) language. English is fairly widely spoken.
There is a large commercially run restaurant on site, offering snacks and hot meals (it is also open to the public). Attendees should be advised that the Shooting Range is not within practical walking distance of any other food services.
The unit of currency is the Swiss Franc, rates of exchange are around 1 x CHF = US$ 1.08 or 1 x CHF = .81 Euro. It may be possible to pay in Euros if you are caught short on arrival/departure.
Taxis are plentiful and metered. A comprehensive city bus service is also available, purchase tickets from the ticket booths before travelling. Show attendees staying in the city should be aware that a single taxi fare (from the city centre) to the range is approximately CHF 40 (US$ 43). B&T provide a return journey to local hotels by minibus, but as this service is provided on demand you should ensure that you have pre-booked a seat with a member of B&T staff before your intended travel time. (There are no commercial bus services to the range).
The old city of Thun is relatively compact and most of the tourist sites worth visiting are in walking distance of each other. Principal attractions include Thun Castle and the military museum.
